Dear readers, I have uploaded a video on my Youtube channel where I answer some of the most frequently asked questions about medical […]
After the long travelling day where I could finally go to bed at 3 o’clock at night, we already had to be ready early morning for the video recording for the small videos in between the show. Luckily they were sweet enough to cancel one part of video recording that was very very early morning (like 6 o’clock) but I still didn’t get a lot of sleep. :p
There I got to realize the life of a girl in a big pageant is not all glitter and glamour but also hard work and little sleep.
In the morning we got to see the lovely and authentic city of Poprad that is ofcourse located in Slovakia. I had never seen Slovakia but it has its charmes. Anyway, it was a short visit and then we got back to the hotel again. There I rested a little until the meeting with all the contestants.
I saved my stories of Instagram during my whole adventure. Here is one of them. I don’t have a lot of video or photo material of this day but you can see the small, cosy city we visited and the sponsored swimsuit I was wearing for the video recordings in the spa.
After some resting time it was time for the spa to do some more video recordings. I was dressed quite casual and wore natural make up for the spa since that is what you normally do until everyone came in with atleast 14 cm heels, full glam make up and cocktail dresses. Oops, didn’t really blend in. I really had to get used to this!
Even when we got to the spa and wore our typical spa robes over our swimsuits, a lot of people wore their heels. I really felt super short that day since I was already one of the more shorter contestants and even more when I didn’t wear these fine high heels. Well yeah, lesson learned I think.
Next to the video recording , there were also photographers of the biggest international pageant site Missosology. It was the first time that I had to pose in front of a camera without proper instructions on how to pose so that was a little hard for me. :p Especially when you saw the really trained girls like the misses from pageant countries like Venezuela making flawless model poses like they already did this for 10 years.
So yeah, first days with a lot of first impressions. In general I felt a small girl in comparison to the really trained pageant girls but would I learn quickly in a small time frame so that it wouldn’t be so noticeable?
Miss Slovak Republic, Miss Czech Republic, me and Miss Namibia in the snow. Such beautiful girls!
My resolution was to write regular blogposts with updates about my stay in Slovakia and Poland but then it all became so hectic and so little sleep that I preferred to sleep instead of writing a blogpost, haha.
So let’s start with the beginning.
17/11 – Flying to Krakow
I was ready with 4 suitcases at the airport of Eindhoven to leave to Krakow. I didn’t know what to expect and was quite nervous… Was I dressed the right way? How would the people be when I arrived? Will the adventure be like I expected? Will it be fun? Did I bring everything that is necessary? Are the clothes I brought perfect for all the occasions? A lot of questions with no answer but since I am an adventurous person, I was ready to just discover it on my own! 😀
There I was flying alone with high heels on and a dress (with ofcourse a winterjacket and a scarf :p) and a full face of make up and hair done. I got looked at quite a lot and was afraid I wasn’t too overdone but when I arrived at the airport of Krakow and met the other contestants I noticed I wasn’t at all. International pageants is all about presenting yourself at every moment of the day at your best. You wear normal jeans and normal outfits to the minimum and try to look like you go to a party everyday, including full make up, hair and fake eyelashes. Oh, and don’t forget the VERY high heels. I will talk later about that.
I felt a little intimidated meeting all the contestants at once. I sincerely had never met so many gorgeous people at once (the level is a lot higher than in Miss Belgium) and some people were even winners of their national pageant. They all looked flawless. Sometimes thoughts like ‘Am I here at the right place?’ ran across my mind but that all went away after some time.
Anyway, the first day was very tiresome with waiting and waiting and waiting at Krakow airport to get our bus to Slovakia with then the actual bustrip of 3-4 hours to Slovakia to then arrive at midnight. What a loooong day…. Eventually I got to sleep at 3 o’clock in the morning…
Ready to leave at airport of Eindhoven
Not a flattering picture but anyway, it is the tradition to also make a picture with the flag of your country. So that was also done then. 😉
Long time, no blogpost here! It is a little hectic to combine my studies of medicine with such a huge contest like this and then also trying to keep a blog updated, so that is why it is a little silent. Studies always get priority, although this is ofcourse a once in a lifetime chance that shouldn’t be missed. My fellow students of medicine probably haven’t seen me a lot in classes and that is not because I was neglecting my studies completely, more out of the reason to win more time to study at home so that I also had some time to prepare!
4 DAYS LEFT. Thursday is the big day and I will leave with 3 big suitcases to Poland to start this wonderful adventure.
3 big suitcases?? Yes, it is incredible what we all have to take with! Luckily I got a lot of help from sponsors and other people to help me with that. My national costume is made by Roman Vandycke and a lot of my dresses are sponsored by Chic dress by Luxury. I have at least 7 cocktail dresses and 4 long gowns. 😮
I also learned how to walk decently since that is actually more important than you would think! We never have learned that in Miss Belgium which I find a little bit of a fault…
Next to that, I also try to do my daily workouts! The international level is suuuper high and although I am blessed with being naturally skinny without having to diet, I can’t go to there without having toned my body decently. For the people that like me don’t want to spend hours everyday in the fitness center, here are some videos that I do daily. 😉
Also, please vote for me by going to this website!! You just click on Belgium and then click on ‘vote’, you can do this multiple times. Support Belgium <3
I hope I will have time in Poland to update regularly about everything since it will be quite some adventure! Although I can’t promise everything since apparently the schedule is quite tight.
Stay tuned for more!
